I finally had enough yesterday when I visited my Safeway Store on the corner of 63rd and Andreson, in Vancouver, Wa. I always have to endure their pandering to “special” groups of people, but I just look the other way and walk out the store. Each month there is a new sign displayed in their store such as “Safeway Celebrates Black History Month“, or “Safeway Celebrates Hispanic Women Month“. I can’t remember the exact wording of their “celebration” for these groups of Americans, but it was something very similar to this. Notice I call these “groups” Americans. I am an American. My grandfather was Irish, and my grandmother was Norwegian. I don’t consider myself an “Irish American”, or a ”Norwegian American”. I consider myself an AMERICAN. So, I get offended when I go to Safeway and I see them pandering to certain groups of people, celebrating them. Safeway never CELEBRATES me. I am a loyal, regular customer. Don’t they care about me? Don’t they care about AMERICANS? The last straw finally happened when I was in Safeway yesterday and I saw a sign in their store promoting the HOMOSEXUAL lifestyle. It said something like “Safeway celebrates Gay and Lesbian month“.
Safeway is now promoting ALTERNATIVE lifestyles. Do they ever celebrate “Traditional Marriage Month“? Do they ever celebrate “Russian Heritage Month? Or, “Ukrainian Heritage Month“? Not that I have ever seen. They never seem to celebrate anything about the straight, white and married male, and I am offended by this. I don’t care if they do, or don’t. What they need to do is stop pandering to certain groups of people, basically kissing up to them and saying “Look, we love you”, just to get their business. It’s about the all mighty dollar. Safeway, you need to stop this rear end kissing of certain races of people, and of certain people of sexual orientations. We are all Americans, whether we are black, white, Asian, straight, or homosexuals. You need to start celebrating AMERICA, and AMERICANS. Why should someone go shopping at Safeway with their seven year old daughter, exposing her to Safeway’s very visible promotion of the Gay and Lesbian lifestyle in their store? When she asks “Mommy, what is Gay and Lesbian Pride Month”, what do you tell her? I know many people are probably offended by Safeway pushing this crap in our faces. Why should people shop in a store that promotes a lifestyle that people do not agree with? Safeway, stop your PANDERING to certain groups of people. If you want to do something worthwhile, promote America, it’ s founding fathers, and the Declaration of Independence. Teach your customers about the greatness of America. It’s something not taught much in school these days. Stop trying to be POLITICALLY CORRECT.
